"Taken The Road" - Tosca Farm bred and part owned mare has major success at the track.

Extract from Sunday Mail article on 30th January 2011 by Simon White:

"There is no horse more improved in SA than Taken The Road, who yesterday took her earnings to more than 40 times her purchase price with a massive win in the Sustainable Turf Renovations Handicap (1000m) at Morphettville. The five year old was bought by trainer David Balfour at the 2007 Autumn Inglis Yearling sale and now has career prizemoney of $102,300 thanks to her sixth win overall and the fourth this preparation.

Balfour has found the key to the mare in keeping her to 1000m races, where she can use her short, sharp sprint to good effect - although supporters would have had hearts in mouths yesterday when she was two lengths behind the second last horse on the turn and under the stick.

I just thought she was a nice filly - the auctioneer Simon Vivian, who is a good judge of a horse, actually said to me "well bought Balf" when I got her, Balfour said. "I expected them to go really hard in front today but they never went that quick, so it was a really good win."

Taken The Road is likely to have a week or two in the paddock (at Tosca Farm) before tackling another sprint next month. Balfour might also try to pick out a race for her in Adelaide's autumn carnival."
